Offer tennis scholarships to talented students - Agwanda

Kisumu based Victoria Tennis Academy Director Collins Agwanda has urged Secondary schools to offer tennis scholarships to talented players for the game to take a new shape.

Speaking during the just concluded Kisumu Boys High School Tennis Championship, Agwanda said there are lots of raw tennis talents in Western Kenya region pointing out that if schools give scholarships, the level of tennis will be up.

At the Kisumu Boys High School Tennis Championship. The event held at Kisumu Boys High School saw academy the talents from from Victoria academy win boys singles, boys’ doubles and girls’ singles.

In Boys category, Victoria Academy’s Eugene Omondi defeated his club mate Freziah Bodo 4-3 to take the title. In semis, Omondi who is a student of Butere Boys High School dismissed his club mate Samuel Otieno 4-1 as Bodo  ridding over Rodgers Otieno of Kisumu Day 4-2 to book finals ticket.

Agwanda challenged Kenya Lawn Tennis Association and Nyanza Lawn Tennis Association to give necessary support to the schools. Agwanda said NLTA has been concentrating there activities in private schools and have challenged them to work with public schools.
