Madagascar’s Andritoavina Rat Simandresy won the boys’ U-14 title in the finals of the Africa Junior Championship that ended Saturday at the Nairobi club.Simandresy who is seeded second overpowered first seed Richard Thongoana from South Africa to win the title.

Rat Simandresy ran over his opponent with a 6-1, 7-6 sets to also book the Davis juniors’ ticket.

Another Madagascar player, Randy Randrianasoloson who is seeded second beat Lee Barnard from South Africa with a 6-2, 6-0 and her performances meant that the North versus South battle ended all in a draw. North Africa grabbed all the U-16 titles

Following a successful event, the Kenya government has pledged to support Kenya Lawn Tennis Association, KLTA’s bid to host the same tournament next year.

“This is a great championship and Kenya is proud to have hosted it. We will support KLTA’s bid to host the same championship next year,” said Sports secretary, James Waweru who presided over the closing ceremony on Saturday.

Waweru was accompanied by the newly elected Nairobi Governor, Evans Kidero who also pledged to help the tennis association develop the land at Kasarani by building more tennis courts.

The historic tournament brought together 127 players from 27 countries.

Kenya entered 12 players with the best Kenyan player being Stephanie Mbaya who was ranked eighth overall.
