Egyptians dominate Kenyans in doubles

Kenya's double team

Egyptian team of Hana Martagy and Sandra Samir humbled the Kenyan team of Sofiya Gulam and Stephanie Mbaya in the doubles of the African Junior tennis Championships main cup on Tuesday at the Nairobi club tennis court.

The Egyptians managed a 6-1, 6-1 emphatic victory which was reflected on their perfect service and reception which was their strong point.

They forced the Kenyans to commit several errors taking the first set 6-1. The second set was more the same like the first one with Samir the world number 37 showing her prowess with her characteristic powerful service which the Kenyans could not match. Sandra was quick to congratulate the Kenyan team after the match saying they gave their best,

“They were good and determined. They forced some tactical errors on us. Stephanie caught us off guard in a couple of occasions. Nevertheless it was great to play against such confident team.” added Samir.

Gulam on her part was happy to team up with Mbaya in the doubles despite losing to the Egyptians whom she admitted played excellently well.

“Egypt’s standard is way above ours they are more exposed and play more matches than us. That is a very good psychological advantage.   It was great teaming up with Mbaya. I was able to learn a lot from her.”
