Kenya Up in IRB world rankings

Updated on 14/02/12  |    By MICHEZOAFRIKA

After posting impressive results in the last two outings in New Zealand and the USA during the fourth and fifth legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series, Kenya has improved on the IRB World rankings from position 14 to 12th.

In Vegas last weekend, Kenya improved on her previous performance in Wellington to lift the Plate title courtesy of a 21-7 win over Argentina in the finals. This came hot on the heels of a bowl win in the Wellington outing. The two wins came with 13 Series points as Kenya improved on her rankings from the previous 13 points to 26.

New Zealand leads the IRB world rankings with 92 points, Fiji 2nd with 87 points, South Africa 3rd with 76, England 4th with 74 and Samoa closes the top 5 with 69 points.

The Kenyan team is expected back in Nairobi on Wednesday morning and will be hosted to a breakfast meeting by the sponsors Kenya Airways KQ.

Kenya will next be in action during the Hong Sevens and the inaugural leg in Japan that take place in late March.
