Two-time world cross country junior champion switches her speciality

After being on rack for 14 years, two-time world junior cross country champion Violah Kibiwot has now switched her speciality to the road.

Kibiwot who comes from ElgeyoMarakwet County has represented Kenya in different international competitions including world cross country, Olympics and world championships.

Last December she participated in her first ever road competition at the Corrida Pedestre Internationale de Houilles 10km where she set a new course record of 31:14.

“I tested it and I was very happy for the results. Now I am trying to adjust and focus on road competition this season,” She said.

The athlete participate in the 1500m for 11 years before switching to 5000m three years ago registering minimal performances.

“We had the plan two years ago and I was to start last year but it didn’t happen until the end of the year,”Kibiwot said.

Kibiwot who has represented Kenya 19 times on international competitions is confident ahead of the season saying that she is hoping to do well in her new speciality.

The athlete represented Kenya at the 2012 London Olympics in 5000m finishing seventh before again making a cut to the Team Kenya for r the 2013 and 2015 World championships in Moscow and Beijing respectively.
