TUK, NIBS win UCFL league openers

Technical University of Kenya served off the Universities and Colleges Football league on a high note, beating beat National Youth Service- Engineering division 2-1 in an emotive clash.

The two sides showed intent in the first third of an hour until Raphael Asudi of NYS Engineering scored an own goal in the 20th minute.

TUK mounted a watertight defense but the servicemen did not tire and in the 50th minute Lotan Mwagadi leveled the scores.

NYS- Engineering’s relief did not last long as Kennedy Okatch netted TUK’s second and winning goal in the 57th minute.

“The match was so tight but the players did well. And we will build up from this win as we hunt down the league title,” said Lucas Aluoch, TUK’s head coach and a former Gor Mahia player.

“There is so much improvement in all the teams that played over the weekend, as compared to last year. The league is set to be explosive and full of surprises,” observed Aluoch.

In other fixtures, Nairobi Institute of Business Studies- Nairobi campus too won their league opener with a 1-0 win over United States International University- Africa.

Peter Njoroge’s 53rd minute goal was all that NIBS Nairobi needed to garner maximum points.

Kenya Medical Training College KNH campus drew 1-1 against Kabete Technical Institute with Salim Dula and Kevin Maina scoring for their respective teams as NIBS Ruiru campus settled for a goalless draw against Management University of Africa.

The games were initially scheduled to be played at the KMTC KNH campus but were moved  to Criminal Investigations Department’s Training School.
