Tight race for top honors ahead of SOYA

The 2019 SOYA awards will be held in Mombasa on the 24th of January 2020

Kenyan international Michael Olunga has been listed among the five top finalists ahead of the 2019 Sports Personality of the Year awards set to be held in Mombasa on January 24th.

The Harambee Stars forward, Olunga will battle it out with top runners including world champion Timothy Cheruiyot, Olympic and world champion Conseslus Kipruto, World Half Marathon record holder Geoffrey Kamworor as well as World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge.

For the first time in the history of SOYA, a bodybuilder  has made it to the final list of five women with Evelyne Okinyi Owala expected to fight out for the top crown against  5000m speedster Helen Obiri, marathoners Ruth Chepng’etich and world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei as well as 3,000m steeplechase world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech.

Owala entered her name in history by emerging the 2019 African champion in the Wellness division as well as the Arnold Classic, winning both titles during the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Championships held in Angola and South Africa respectively.
