Spectacular Ayana leads Ethiopia's double in women 10K final
Ethiopia's Almaz Ayna is the winner of the 10000m women's world title. Ayana put up a world class performance to clinch gold to a thunderous applause from the packed Olympic stadium in London as the World Athletics Championships entered day two in London.
Ayana , who is the Olympic champion over the distance having put up another mercurial performance in Rio in 2016, staged a spectacular final lap performance in London to clinch Gold in a world leading time of 30:16.32.
Having led Dibaba throughout the race , Kenya's duo of Agnes Tirop and Alice Aprot miscalculated their final stretch allowing Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba an edge as she stretched beyond Tirop in the final bend to win Silver for Ethiopia with her season best time of 31:02.69.
Agnes Tirop won bronze for Kenya with her personal best time of 31:03.50.
With her season best of 31:11.86 Alice Aprot finished in 4th place while the third Kenyan in the race Irene Cheptai posted 31:21.11 to finish 6th.
