Sliders edge Daystar in Hockey league action

First half goals were all that Sliders needed to garner three crucial points winning 4-0 against Daystar University during the Kenya Hockey Union women's national league at City Park, Nairobi over the weekend.

Nancy Kibugong opened the rout on the ninth minute through a Sarah Rangangi assist. Rangangi and June Kangongo easily dribbled past Daystar's Bridget Omondi, Mercy Musyimi and Annette Kerubo as the set up Kibugong to score. Anita Agunda notched a double past Alice Wanjiku, Daystar's goalkeeper, in the  25th and 32nd minutes giving her side a comfortable 3-0 lead. 

Daystar University experienced a dark day when Slider's captain Beryl Atieno sealed the victory just before the break, in the 35th. The two sides put up water tight defence in the second half that ended goalless.

In another league duel at the same venue, visiting Kabarak University came from behind to draw against Wazalendo Youth 1-1. Peter Karanja scored in the 17th minute for Wazalendo Youth, as Duncan Kibet leveled scores in the 57th, both goals hit from the field. Parkroad Tigers shared spoils, settling for a barren draw.

Elsewhere, Mvita XI and Mombasa Sports Club failed to honor their premier league fixtures against Champions Butali Warriors and United States International University- Africa in Nairobi, at the weekend.
