Nzoia Sugar forward Elvis Rupia says he will not leave the Nzoia based club despite receiving many offers due to his brilliant start to the season.
The striker who has scored 12 goals so far this season was on Tuesday awarded as the SportPesa/Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) player of the month of April due to his goal scoring prowess.
"I’ve received many offers from rival premier league clubs but I would like to stay and see off the season here. I do not want to break the rhythm I’ve gained here because moving to another club mid season can really unsettle a player,” the forward said when he received his award at the club’s base in Sudi on Tuesday.
Rupia bagged four goals in April beating off competition from Zoo Kericho’s Mike Madoya and Nicholas Kipkurui who both had four as well and Chris Masinza who scored three.
The 22-year old Nakuru-born forward received 19 votes from the SJAK football committee while Kipkurui received 17, Madoya 15 and Masinza nine.
"I'm very happy to be honored for what I do on the pitch and hopefully this will spur greater effort from me. I could not have achieved this without the support of my teammates and club officials so I dedicate this to them as well." Rupia said.
He says he targets to win the golden boot this season with a target of bagging 26 goals. So far in 17 games, he has scored 12 and sits top of the goal scorers’ charts.
Alongside the gong, Rupia also bagged a 49 inch LG television set and Sh100,000 from Sportpesa with his teammates set to share Sh50,000.
