Rugby Africa Gold Cup: Kenya, Zimbabwe Clash

The Zimbabwe Sables are in town this weekend for their Rugby Africa Gold Cup clash against Kenya Simbas. The two teams were busy on Friday at the RFUEA grounds in the Kenyan Capital, Nairobi in preparation ahead of their clash at 3 pm local time on Saturday.

The training session for Zimbabwe was led by their head coach Peter de Villiers to set the boys up for the clash that will also double up as the 2019 World Cup qualifiers. The team arrived in the Capital on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the preparations at the RFUEA grounds.

Kenya Simbas jetted back into the country on Monday morning after a successful outing in Casablanca, Morocco where they downed their hosts 28-24 to pick early points in the tournament. Earlier on Zimbabwe had drawn with Morocco 23-23 in their first match of the tournament and will be looking to get the first win from organized Simba.

Ian Snook, Kenya Simbas head coach expressed confidence in the Kenyan squad ahead of the clash insisting there was a need to focus on lineouts and breakdowns.

“We are looking to improve on line-outs and set-pieces also a little bit of scrummaging. We've been working on that. Otherwise, the mood is positive and we are ready to go on Saturday afternoon,” he said.

Zimbabwe named the squad to play Kenya on Friday morning with prop Denford Mutamangira set to captain the side.
