Roma in Champs League hunt against lowly Carpi in Serie A

Luciano Spalleti will be expecting his side to jump to third place in the Serie A and secure a much coveted Champions League qualifying spot, albeit temporarily. After all, AS Roma will be visiting relegation bound Carpi FC 1909 at the Stadio Alberto Braglia, in the province of Modena, northern Italy.

It won’t be much to expect that. The Giallorossi beat the living daylights out of 18th placed Capri. 5-1, in the reverse fixture in Rome. In addition, they have won their last three Serie A matches, including a 2-0 away win at 7th placed Sassuolo, a fixture sandwiched between victories over lowly Sampdoria and Frosinone. Carpi fits the perfect bill.

The hosts, five points off safety, have been winless in their last four league matches, losing the last two fixtures. However, the Biancorossi did draw against Inter Milan, away, at the San Siro in January. So Carpi still have what it takes to wreck havoc to the big boys’ plans.

With the capital side bathing in the likes of former Arsenal keeper, Woljiech Szczesny and former Manchester City forward, Edin Dzeko, aided by midfielders Miralem Pjanic and AC Milan loanee, Stephan El Shaarawy, the three time Italian league winners, Roma, who have come second best to Juventus in the last two Serie A seasons, have what it takes to edge towards premier continental football.

However, football is all about taking your chances. That’s what the Wolves should do, especially with Real Madrid heading to Rome, on Wednesday night, for a Champions League affair.
