Professionals to feature in KGU Chairman's Cup

Professional golfers will for the first time feature in the annual Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman’s event slated for May 19-21 at the Kenya Railways Golf Club in Nairobi.

The KGU Golf development officer Vet Lab Sports Club’s professional Brian Njoroge will lead the professionals in the event.

The event has attracted 300 amateurs and 20 professional golfers in an event which is usually used to honour the union’s chairman.

KGU chairman Anthony Muhoro said the professionals and amateurs competing for the Golfer of the Year Series (Goty) will play together in a Pro-Am event.

“We have set aside Sh200,000 as prize money for the professionals in the Chairman’s Cup,” said Muhoro.

The professionals participation has been made possible by funding by Sidian Bank formerly K-Rep to a tune of Sh1 Million, 437,000.

The Goty series golfers will be feted with vouchers as winners will be awarded every day in the three day event with grand finale taking place on Saturday.

Muhoro thanked Sidian for the sponsorship and said the funding will witness the best ever Chairman’s Cup ever to have been organised by KGU.
