Omanyala pulls out of Ostrava with slight injury

“I would have had very little time to recover if I went and competed in Ostrava so we thought it wise with my management to come back home and not go to Ostrava. Right now, my focus is just on the African championships and that is what I am putting all effort in,” said Omanyala.

Africa’s 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala has pulled out of tonight’s Ostrava Golden Spike Continental Gold Tour meeting to focus on the Africa Athletics Championship scheduled for next week in Mauritius.

Omanyala strained an abdominal muscle during his race in Germany last week where he finished second behind Sri Lankan Mudiyanselage Yupun Abeykoon.

Organizers announced that Omanyala communicated his decision to pull out last week after his second race of his European Tour in Germany.

Speaking separately, the Kenyan track star said he thought it wise to have a longer rest period before the African championships to ensure full recovery.

“I would have had very little time to recover if I went and competed in Ostrava so we thought it wise with my management to come back home and not go to Ostrava. Right now, my focus is just on the African championships and that is what I am putting all effort in,” said Omanyala.

Omanyala has already reported to the Kenyan African Championship team’s residential training camp at the Kasarani Stadium. He is scheduled to compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, and remains confident he will medal in all.
