Olympic and Paralympic teams to be feted in Nandi County

Athletes and teams which took part at the Rio Olympics and Paralympic Games this year will be celebrated on Wednesday in Nandi County.

The athletes will be treated to a lunch in an event to be held at Nandi Bears Club and organised by Lotto Foundation and Ministry of Sports.

The club hosted Kenya's men and women rugby teams ahead of the Rio games.

Kenya posted its best ever performance in Olympics after getting six gold, six silver and a bronze medal.

Paralympians also got three gold, one silver and two bronze medals to rank sixth in the African nation.

The gold medallist was David Rudisha (800m), Conseslus Kipruto (3000m SC), Eliud Kipchoge (marathon), Faith Chepng’etich (1,500m), Vivian Cheruiyot (5,000m) and Jemimah Sumgong (marathon).

Paul Tanui got a silver medal in  10,000m) alongside Boniface Mucheru (400m hurdles), Julius Yego (javelin), Vivian Cheruiyot (10,000m), Hyvine Kiyeng (steeplechase) and Hellen Obiri (5,000m).

Fast rising runner Margaret Wambui got a bronze medal in the 800m.
