Olunga scores a hat trick as Girona thrash La Palmas
Harambee Stars striker Micheal Olunga made history by becoming the first Kenyan and Girona FC player to score a hat trick in a Spanish La Liga Match during Saturday's clash that saw the home side whitewash visitors Las Palmas 6-0.
Newcomers Girona got their 19th round of Spanish La Liga to a good start when Cristian Stuani converted from the spot in the 24th minute.
The real show started when Olunga came on a second half substitute for Christian Ricardo and made immediate impact with his first goal and first ever in La Liga came in the in the 57th minute to double the lead.
Five minutes later, the former Kenyan Premier League MVP was involved in the build-up that led to the third goal by Borja Garcia.
In the 70th minute sloppy defending allowed Olunga steal the ball from La Palmas keeper Raul Lizoain before rounding him off and shooting at the empty net to make it 4-0.
Four minutes later, another good interception saw Olunga provide a perfect assist to Cristian Portu who easily lobbed the ball past the keeper.
The great outing for Olunga was capped with a brilliant shot in the 80th minute to make it 6-0 and a hat-trick for the 23-year old Kenyan who is at Girona FC on loan from Chinese club Guizhou Zhicheng.
Since arrival at the beginning of the season, Olunga has so far played five games for Girona, once as a starter against Barcelona FC.
After the early Saturday fixture, Girona FC has 26 points and were placed 9th in the 20-team La Liga table.
