Micheal Olunga played for an hour in his first start for Girona FC who lost the match 3-0 to La Liga leaders Barcelona at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi  on Saturday evening.

It was an eventful day for the Kenyan whose height and pace stood out despite the loss.

Things started on the wrong footing as a third minute challenge by Olunga left Mascherano writhing in pain, but somehow the Kenyan escaped a booking.

Barcelona custodian Ter Stegen then pulled a fantastic save to deny Olunga in the 13th minute after the former K'Ogalo striker pounced on a rebound from Douglas Luiz.

Girona conceded the first goal four minutes later when Aday Benítez unfortunately deflected Alba’s strike.

The best opportunity for Girona in the first half was five minutes to the breather when Olunga outwitted Umtiti in the air but his header went wide.

Barcelona went two up in the three minutes after the break through another own goal by Gorka Iraizoz who deflected Suarez’s back heel.

Olunga's last contribution was a 55th minute header that went straight to Barcelona keeper Ter Stegens gloves. Five minutes later he paved way for Nigerian Olarenwaju  Kayode.

Luis Suarez capped the great evening for Barcelona with a cool finish in the 79th minute to ensure a flawless start to the season for the La Liga giants after six out of six wins.

Olunga’s Girona have collected five points from six matches and are in the third quarter of the 20-team table.
