Oduor first officiated at the 2014 edition of the tournament in Hong Kong.

The annual tournament, previously known as the Junior World Rugby Trophy (JWRT) was first played in 2008 and makes a return to the African continent for the first time since Kenya hosted it in 2009.

It is the second level of the World Rugby tournament structure for under-20 national sides, second in the pecking order to the World Junior World Championships.
