The World U-20 Athletics Championships will now be held on new dates between August 17 and 22, 2021 just a week after the Tokyo Olympic Games at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, Nairobi.

World Athletics made the resolution on July 30, 2020 following the disruption of its 2020 calendar of events by the coronavirus pandemic that necessitated closure of borders and consequently halt travels.

The competition targeting athletes from the age of 16 to 19 was initially slated for between July 7 and 12, 2020 in Nairobi, Kenya.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe acknowledged that the coronavirus pandemic has made it difficult to plan international events over the next two years.

He said: "We have done our best to choose dates that we believe are achievable and offer the best chance for our athletes and event hosts to shine on the international stage. We want to give as much certainty as we can to our athletes, Member Federations, host cities and partners."

Meanwhile, World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships have also been rescheduled for April 23 and 24, 2022 in Minsk, Belarus.

Other rescheduled events in the global athletics calendar include the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Yangzhou 2022. The reschedule of the 21km road race is now pushed by a week- from March 20, 2022 to 27th of the same month.
