Kenya's Samson Ndingiti produced a sterling performance on Saturday morning to earn Kenya a bronze medal in the men's 10000m walk as the World U-18 Youth Championships entered day four at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.
Ndingiti produced a personal best time of 41:25.78 to come behind China's Yao Zhang who won gold medal in a time of 41:12.01 and Silver medalist Salva Ilkaev who is an Authorized Neutral Athlete. Ilkaev posted his personal best time of 41:24.17.
This is Kenya’s first global championships medal in a race walking event.
Kenya has a total of six medals (two gold three silver and one bronze), as by Saturday morning and are placed second on the table standings behind Cuba who have three gold and one silver.
"I used a lot of energy since I lacked a teammate to pace for me. That made me slow down on my last lap because I couldn't sprint anymore. However, I am happy to deliver Kenya a medal in such an event.” Ndingiti said after the race.
