Athletes continue their search for excellence this weekend as the sixth Athletics Kenya Cross Country series heads to Machakos.

Local talents led by world 5000m silver medallist Caleb Ndiku, Nancy Nzisa and Eunice Kioko will no doubt fight tooth and nail to shine in their backyard.

Stephen Arita and Caroline Chepkoech brilliantly won the previous edition and they will be back for another short.

Nicholas Kosibei and Sandrafelis Chebet took the junior categories titles.

The event will close the AK cross country calendar before resuming next year.

According to the AK Southern Branch chairman Paul Mutwii, necessary arrangements have been finalized for the event set for Saturday at Machakos Teachers Training College.

He said the presence of home stars will motivate the upcoming generation.

Sotik will host the next meet on Januray 7 after which grassroot competitions will follow culminating into the national trials to select team for IAAF World Cross Country championships.
