Mukumu boys receive their regional trophy from Bungoma County Governor Hon Wycliffe Wangamati

Mukumu boys and Bishop Njenga Girls will represent Western region during the Chapa Dimba National finals set to be held at the Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega at the end of March.

The two teams booked the national spot after their triumph at the Magharibi Region finals played at Bungoma’s Kanduyi stadium on the weekend of  3rd and 4th February.

Bishop Njenga Girls were the first to book the national slot on Sunday morning following their 1-0 win over Shinyalu youth academy with captain Violet Wanyonyi netting the all important winner 4 minutes after the break.

Mukumu boys needed two second half goals to edge out hard working Lugari Saints 2-0 in the thrilling boys finals.

Odero Petrelis dribbled past two defenders to fire home past Lugari custodian Mumia Kelvin in the 69th minute for the victor's first goal. This seemed to have dropped the confidence of the Saints as they crumbled to allow another goal less than ten minutes later as Alvin Mangeni slotted home the definite winner for Mukumu in the 77th minute.

The winners in both the girls and boys finals received a cash reward of Shs. 200,000 each and will now represent Western region in the national finals scheduled for 24th and 25th   March this year. The first runners-up also received a cash reward of Shs.100, 000 each.

Winners at the national finals will win one million shillings and a chance to travel to London for a mentorship program that will include meeting Chapa Dimba Ambassador Victor Wanyama who plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.

The finals at Kanduyi were attended by Bungoma Governor H.E Hon Wycliffe Wangamati, Bungoma Chie Executive Officer in Charge of Sports, Arts and Culture Evelyne Kakai, other senior County officials and high ranking Safaricom officials.
