Monaco in murky waters as Bordeaux come calling

AS Monaco did great in their last match. It was away to Paris St. Germain, and the principality side came out victorious. No team had ventured into the Parc des Princes and walked away with a win. No team. The three points helped Leonardo Jardim’s charges have a five-point cushion over third-placed Nice. But only just.

With seven games left to play in Ligue 1, Les Rouges et Blancs are still in a precarious position. Yes, they are in second place, and yes, they have been winning their games, but a five-point lead can easily be wiped out given how complacent Les Monegasques have been this season, and more so by a slippery team like FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

Okay, so Bordeaux have had a crisis of a season that culminated in coach Willy Sagnol been given his matching orders, after a run of 1 win in eight games. Ulrich Rame, a club legend, takes over his first ever head coach role. This makes it all very tricky, what with including a combo of injuries and suspensions.

Les Girondins currently occupy 14th place with 39 points, just six above safety. They need three points at the Stade Louis II. However, Bordeaux can take solace in the fact that, not only did they beat Monaco 3-0 earlier in the season, but Les Monegasques haven’t won in their last five affairs against Les Girondins, losing thrice.

In addition, before the win over PSG, Monaco had drawn at home to Reims, currently level on points with the last relegation side, Gaezelec Ajaccio, their third consecutive stalemate. This is a match that could go either way.
