Monaco bundled out of Coupe de France by Sochaux

AS Monaco are out of the French Cup. The principality side’s quarters’ hopes were thwarted by Ligue 2 side, Sochaux 2-1 at the Stade Bonal in Montbeliard, France. 25-year old midfielder, Floriant Martin gave the home side the lead in the 19th minute of the tie, before Tiemoue Bakayoko restored parity for Monaco, 19 minutes later.

Nine minutes after the break, forward Hadi Sacko gave Sochaux the lead that the more illustrious Monaco failed to recover from. It was over. Sochaux are headed for the quarters.

Elsewhere, Ligue 1 side Gazelec Ajaccio had Kevin Mayi and Khalid Boutaib to thank for, having come from a surprising goal behind to beat Brittany based fourth tier side, Saint Malo, 2-1, at the Stade Marville. Steven Creac’h had given the amateur home side a 33rd minute lead, before the game went awry for the hosts.

On the stroke of the hour, 23-year old forward Mayi equalized for the visitors before 28-year old Frenchman, Boutaib, gave the visitors the lead.

Meanwhile, Championnat de Amaetuer Group H side, US Granville, caused another upset after the fifth tier side bundled second division Bourg Peronnas 1-0, to secure a quarter-final passage at the Stade Louis Dior in North Eastern France.
