With her debut appearance at the WRC Safari Rally behind the wheels of a new M-Sport Poland Ford Fiesta Rally3, Kenya’s lone female driver at the rally Maxine Wahome continues to lead the WRC3 Charts heading into the final stages.
Despite experiencing a mild computer glitch on Saturday morning that saw her lose almost six minutes, Maxine recovered well to head back to the top table standings describing her experience as, "thrilling and exciting to be leading the big boys".
Speaking on Sunday after her opening round, she said, “I am feeling excited and enjoying every bit of it. I am happy to be leading the boys. The car is completely different from the one I used last year but I am getting used to it, I am adjusting quickly.”
Maxine is one of the Four Kenyan junior FIA Rally Stars who are taking part in the WRC Safari Rally this year. The four: Maxine, Jeremy Wahome, Hamza Anwar and Macrae Kimathi are sponsored by Safaricom and Kenya Airways through the FIA Rally Star programme that seeks to support young drivers.
