Lugulu edge hosts to win Webuye 10’s

Lugulu are the winners of the 10th edition of the Webuye 10’s rugby festival that took place at the Webuye DEB Primary school on Wednesday 27th December 2017.

This year’s edition of the tournament  organized by Webuye RFC with the support of Prof Max Muniafu saw 14 teams drawn from different villages across western Kenya taking part in a competitive championship that was also attended by some Kenya’s top rugby stakeholders including former national team head coaches Benjamin Ayimba and Michael 'Tank' Otieno.

Lugulu had no respect for the hosts, dismissing Webuye RFC 21-05 to clinch the crown and finish the tournament unbeaten.

Speaking during the finals in Webuye, Kenya Rugby Union Honorary Secretary Oduor Gangla noted that, “It is interesting that most of the clubs are following the structures of their villages. This shows the level of penetration of the game in the various villages which is good for the growth of the game. I don’t think there are many other counties where you can find rugby in almost every village and this just proves that western is indeed the bedrock of rugby.”
