The German league may have taken a commercial break, but the football rumbles on. It's the Road to Berlin. It's the quarterfinals of the German Cup. It's the 73rd edition of the DFB Pokal. Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin may fancy their chances against weaker opposition in VfB Bochum and FC Heidenheim, respectively, but that cannot be said of Bayer Leverkusen or Borrusia Dortmund.

Die Borrusien face a mountain to climb when they make Mercedes-Benz Arena their next port of call to visit VfB Stuttgart. It won't be easy. Though Dortmund have been in the last two finals and won the cup in 2012, they'll be facing a side that is enjoying its best run of form this season, having won their last five matches, unbeaten in seven.

Even though the Black and Yellows have the personnel to finish the job, with the likes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marco Reus, Shinji Kagawa or even Henrikh Mkhitaryan, they'll be wary of Stuttgart's counter attacking approach. The odds may favor Borussia, but a surprise could be in the cards in this cracker of a match.

Surprise is what will choke Bayer 04 Leverkusen, if Werder Bremen walk out of the BayArena with a victory and a semis spot. Bayer are currently fifth in the Bundesliga, only two points away from a Champions League slot, while Werder occupy a relegation play off spot.

Nevertheless, though Bremen were given a 5-1 hiding at the hands of Borussia Monchengladbach in their last match, it has to be remembered that previously they had drawn with third placed Hertha in a six-goal thriller, beaten fourth placed Schalke 04 away and eliminated Monchengladbach in the previous round of the DFB Pokal. It certainly won't be a walk in the park for Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez and his cohorts.
