KPL finally postpones Mashemeji derby
Mashemeji derby has been postponed by KPL
The Kenyan Premier League has officially postponed the Mashemeji Derby pitting arch-rivals Gor Mahia versus AFC Leopards that was to be played on Saturday 26th, May 2018 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
The decision followed the ruling by the Sports Dispute Tribunal on Wednesday that reinforced the mandate of the Kenyan Premier League, to run the League without interference and granted the body the power to decide the fate of the derby
Hours after the ruling that irked Football Kenya Federation (FKF) , KPL released a statement signed by CEO Jack Oguda to announce the postponement of the derby.Apart from a new date, a new venue will also be communicated.
“After consultations with the KPL Executive Committee, this is to confirm that the AFC Leopards SC vs Gor Mahia FC match that was scheduled to be played at the Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday, 26 May 2018 has been postponed,” read the KPL statement.
“A new date and venue for the match will be communicated next week after consultation with the home team, AFC Leopards SC”
The decision restores relative calm at Harambee Stars camp ahead of friendlies against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea on Friday 25th and Monday 28th May at Machakos Stadium.
