KPL 2019-2020 season to kick off on Aug 30
Defending champions Gor Mahia will start 2019-2020 KPL campaign against Tusker FC
The new season of the Kenyan premier League, confirming to the August-May calendar proposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to kick off on August 30 with the first match pitting Kariobangi Sharks and Western Stima.
Clubs will have enough time to rest after a tough 2018/2019 condensed season that started in December and was squeezed through to the final week of May, teams being forced to play up to three games a week.
The season opening KPL Super Cup between Gor Mahia and Bandari will be played on August 18, in between the first and second legs of the CAF Confederations Cup and Champions League matches.
Defending champions Gor will start their campaign against Tusker FC at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on September 1. On their return to top flight football, Wazito FC will kick off their campaign at home against Nzoia Sugar on Saturday August 31.
Debutants Kisumu All Stars who earned a place in top flight football after finishing second in the National Super League start their campaign at home in Kisumu against Ulinzi Stars on the same day.
In other opening day fixtures, Mathare will play Bandari, Sofapaka face Posta Rangers, Sony Sugar host KCB in a home return for new coach Zedekiah Otieno, Kakamega Homeboyz host AFC Leopards while Zoo host Chemelil in Kericho
