Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto continued his fine form securing a win  at the Antrim International Cross Country on Saturday.

Kipruto claimed the men’s title while Caroline Chepkoech Kipkirui took women’s crown for a Kenyan double since the year 2002.

Kipruto who dethroned four time world steeplechase champion Ezekiel Kemboi in Rio crossed the line in 24:36 ahead of Bahrain’s Abraham Cheroben who settled for second in 24:37 and Britain’s Andy Vernon came third in 24:56.

In the first lap, Lachlan Oates of Britain commanded the lead with Kipruto and Soufiane El Bakkli and Vernon breathing behind.

However,in the second lap Kipruto and Cheroben broke away for the pack calling shots until the final whistle when the sprint-finish decided the winner.

According to Kipruto, he knew he was strong in sprint finish hence he was tactfully making his moves until the last minute when he went for the jugular to the tape.

In the women’s category, Chepkoech clocked 18:53 on her first visit to Greenmount.

The 2011 African Junior 5000m champion beat Ethiopia’s Gotytom Gebreslase and Birtukan Adamu to second and third in 19:35 and 19:38 respectively.
