Kerr wants Gor to carry Yanga performance into Derby

Gor Mahia coach has challenged his players to carry their Wednesday form against Yanga into their weekend match against AFC Leopards in the local derby.

Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has urged his players to carry  their  4-0 Yanga  form in the Confederations Cup on Wednesday to Sunday’s derby, saying he was impressed with their character.

Gor were in emphatic form scoring four unanswered goals past the Tanzanians and denying them even a single shot on target.

“This was a great performance. A performance of calibre. We were missing some key players and we had to jig but still we produced an outstanding performance. We scored four goals but maybe we could have had three or four more,” Kerr said after the match.

“We have an important match on Sunday and if we can be able to take this same performance there, then we will get a result,” the tactician added.

Kerr said he would give his players a day’s break before they return to training Friday morning to shape up for the highly anticipated fixture at the Kasarani Stadium.

Looking back at the match, Kerr was full of praise for his players especially Humphrey Mieno and Ephraim Guikan who struck a brace in the tie.

“I feel really pleased for Ephraim because he has been under pressure for lack of scoring. As a striker it sometimes gets into your head when you don’t score but today he showed his class with two good goals,” the coach said.

“Humphrey, his performance has been growing every single day since he came in and his value keeps rising and rising. But now he should be able to do that consistently,” added the tactician.

Gor meanwhile will all but confirm for themselves a place in the Confederations Cup quarters if they pick a win away to Yanga in 10 days but Kerr knows it will not be a walk in the park.

‘We know it will be tough in Tanzania definitely because of their fans who are very passionate. But I know maybe some Simba fans will come to support me,” joked the coach.

The return fixture will be played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on the 29th of this month.
