Kerr slams Afraha pitch as horrendous
Kerr terms Afraha Stadium as a cow field
Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has slammed the Afraha Stadium pitch in Nakuru as horrendous despite their 3-0 win over Zanzibar’s Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) in the SportPesa Super Cup on Sunday.
The Afraha Stadium hosted a comedy show on Saturday, a day to the tournament’s kick off and the slight showers in Nakuru coupled with activity on the playing surface partly destroyed the surface.
“The surface was horrendous. I feel sorry for the fans who pay to watch football in a pitch like this. How can you play football here? We played on a cow field! It’s a bad image for Kenyan football, my team is a passing team we play one touch two touch, but it is impossible here,” the dejected tactician said.
Despite that he was pleased with the performance of his team and is already eying the successful defense of the title, noting that his side will look to improve ahead of Thursday’s semi-final.
He admitted that his team might have underrated JKU hence their slow start to the game.
“At the end it was a difficult game for us because psychologically in the players’ minds, they thought it was certain it will be an easy game. We didn’t start well and in the first 15 minutes we were really poor,” the coach said.
Meanwhile, he expects a tough game for the semis n Thursday where they will meet either arch rivals AFC Leopards or SIngida United who play in the last quarter final game on Tuesday.
