Kenyan trio off to winning starts at Africa Club Champs

Prisons, who were the last Kenyan side to win the title in 2013 were also in good form when they saw off CNS by straight sets, winning the opener 25-9.

Kenya’s representatives at the African Women Volleyball Club Championships Kenya Pipeline, Prisons and KCB started off their campaigns with wins on the opening day of the Championship on Sunday in Tunisia.

KCB who finished ninth in their last appearance in 2019 as they saw off Ivory Coast’s Asec Mimosas by straight sets. Japheth Munala’s girls easily won the opening set 25-13 before replicating the same tempo to go 2-0 up with a 25-12 victory in the second set.

The girls were more emphatic in the final set seeing off the Ivorian champions 25-10 to start off on a superb note.

Prisons, who were the last Kenyan side to win the title in 2013 were also in good form when they saw off CNS by straight sets, winning the opener 25-9.

They face a tougher last two sets but the Kenyan girls managed to weather the storm winning the second 25-18 and 25-20 to see off the game in three sets.

Pipeline, who last won the trophy in 2005 also won by straight sets beating Nigeria’s Customs.

The tie was competitive and the Oilers managed a 25-19 victory in the opening set before winning the second 25-18.

The Nigerian girls didn’t have more fuel in their tanks for a fight in the third set as Pipeline easily won 25-9.
