Kenya Pipeline cruise past Rwanda Army to book first win

Kenya volleyball champions Kenya Pipeline  on Friday afternoon cruised to their  first win as they edged Rwanda Army with an emphatic 0-3 (24-26, 14-25, 12-25) win in pool C opening match of the 2017 women’s African volleyball club championship in MZALI hall in Monastir, Tunisia.

The Kenyan team had a tough first set after leading convincingly but Army closed the gap 22-22 before they finally lost the remaining sets.

In the third set, Pipeline defended well to stop Army with spikes from Seraphine Mukantambara and easily won the set 25 – 12 for a 3-0 victory.

"They had a very good outside hitter (Mukantambara) who gave us a hard time in the opening set. But we studied her attacks and sealed  her off in the following sets. The competition here is very tough and we must approach each match as a final." Noted Kenya Pipeline attacker Trizah Atuka.

Pipeline are out for an 8th continental crown that has eluded their trophy cabinets for the past 12 years having last won the same in 2005.

In another match played later on Friday night , Kenya Prisons failed to shine past defending champions Al Ahly  who emerged with a 3-1 win.
