Kenya beats Rwanda to qualify for Africa Cup
The Kenya men's volleyball team on Monday evening qualified for the Africa men youth championships that will be held in Egypt later in the year .
Kenya qualified after a well fought 3-1 ( 25-23, 25-22,23-25, 25-21) win over hosts nation Rwanda at the Amahoro indoor Stadium in Kigali.
This is welcome news for the Kenyan side that had started the championships on a wrong footing after they went down to a surprise 2-3 (24-26,21-25,25-17,26-24,12-15) loss to Uganda.
The Kenyan team recovered well in their second match to beat South Sudan 3-0(25-17, 25-10, 25-15) to set a nervous stage of the final encounter when they met ever improving Rwandan side that is coached by former Kenyan international Paul Bitok.
The win over Rwanda catapulted Kenya to the top of the regional Zone 5 ranking with seven points from two wins and a point they collected from their 2-3 loss to Uganda.
Rwanda finished in second place to secure the other available slot for the Africa Cup that will double up as the World Championships qualifier. Uganda finished in third spot while South Sudan was 4th with zero win.
