Karoki wins 2017 Discovery title

World half marathon silver medalist Bedan Karoki  defended the men's 10km race at the Discovery cross country in Eldoret.

Karoki shook off stiff challenge from KDF Cross Country winner Emmanuel Kipsang and Alex Kibet to win the race. Kipsang dropped in the last two laps leaving Kibet and Karoki as title contenders. Karoki then sped away clocking 29:54.2 to win while Kibet finished  second in 30:05.4 and Geoffrey Kipyego was third with 30:06.8.

Bernard Kipkemboi crossed the line in 30:08.5 in fourth beating Timothy Rono (30:10.4) and Noah Kipkemboi who closed the top six in 30:14.2.

Karoki who is preparing to make his debut at the London marathon in April said  "I am glad that I will be making my debut in London and the build up so far is promising. I will try my best,"

Karoki teamed up with the winner  Geoffrey Kamworor at the world half marathon where he got silver.

In the  senior women's  8km category, Irene  Cheptai and former world youth 3000m champion Lilia Kasait fought hard for the title.

Cheptai timed 26:28.9 while Kasait settled for second in 26:34.2 and Eunice Chebichii of Bahtain closed the podium in 27:13.3.

Lucy Cheruiyot  finished fourth in 27:18.4 followed by former Olympic youth queen Gladys Chesir (27:23.6) and Vivian Kiplagat clocked 27:27.2 in sixth.

Richard Kimunyan won the junior men 8km category.He blasted to victory in 23:53.5 beating Josphat Kipchirchir to second in 24:01.7 and Antony Saita timed 24:14.1 in third.

Sandra Chebet  took the honours  in the 6km junior women in 20:42.1 while Chebet Ngetich clocked 21:09.9 and Emily Chebet crossed the line in 21:09.9.
