Kakamega, Laiser Hill qualify for nationals

A solitary goal against St. Anthony’s Kitale in the Nzoia Region boys’ final in Busia was enough to ensure Kakamega High School set off to Machakos to defend their Airtel Rising Stars national crown.

This fixture was a highly charged match, both teams well aware of what was at stake and it was Eric Ouma who popped up with the all-important goal that sent the Green Commandos to victory.

In the girls category, Former Kenya and East African Schools Champions Wiyeta returned to the nationals after enduring a barren regulation and extra time to dispose of Kakamega County’s Ibinzo 4-1 on post match penalties.

Over in Machakos, It was drama galore as Laiser Hill edged out Upper Hill 5-4 on post match penalties to win the boys’ final and with it a ticket to the national finals.

Laiser Hill had shot into a 3-0 lead in regulation and it seemed as though Upper Hill were dead and buried until a late surge resulted in three goals to bring the scores level and send the match into extra time.

The two sides could not break the stalemate and it was Laiser who prevailed in the lottery that is the penalty shootouts.

Olympic made light work of Kikima, cruising to an 8-0 win that saw them win the girls’ final and book a ticket to the nationals. 

Lake region Kisumu Day, losing finals at the 2014 nationals, defeated Barding 2-0 to win the boys’ finals while Kobala registered a similar result over Abwao to claim the girls’ crown.

 Highlands region Ibrahim Shambe was in inspirational form, pulling the strings to lead Gathungi High School to a 6-0 demolition job of Kamiu in the boys’ final and secure a return to the national finals.

Kirigara and Ntunene played out a 1-1 draw in the girls’ final, Kirigia eventually winning this match on penalties, outscoring Ntunene 4-3.

Aberdares: Nginda Girls defeated Passenga Girls 3-0 in the girls final to claim the Aberdares region ticket to the nationals.The boys final saw Passenga defeat Olbolosat 4-1.
