Kakamega, Kisumu to host CECAFA as tournament returns to Kenya

Kenya will host the 2017 edition of the CECAFA Senior challenge cup with three venues already identified to host the championship.

This is welcome news for Kenya especially after being stripped the rights to host CHAN following the decision by CAF Executive.

According to CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, “This promises to be an exciting season and we look forward to have a beautiful tournament.” He told michezoafrika.com

Nakuru, Kakamega and Kisumu have been earmarked as the main counties to host the regional soccer tournament and Musonye says “We want to take the game to the people mashinani (at the grassroots) and we  have already inspected all venues and we are convinced they are in good shape.”

Among the facilities targeted for the championships include Bukhungu stadium which has undergone massive facelift courtesy of the County Government of Kakamega.

Musonye notes that the County Government has promised to fast track the completion of the stadium in order to give Kakamega residents an opportunity to watch the best of the region, “It is quite impressive (Bukhungu) and the County Government has done a commendable job. We are hoping that the facility will be ready by the time we kick off but all the same we already have Mumias Sports Complex that is equally in good shape just in case.” Musonye added.

The CECAFA Tournament will be held between November 25th to December 9th .Uganda are the defending champions  having lifted their historic 14th crown during the last edition held in Ethiopia in 2015.

The tournament failed to take off last year.
