Juventus keen to continue form as Roma visit Turin

Juventus are in cruise mode. They are currently devastating. The Bianconeri are obliterating their opponents almost at will. They are the Serie A form side. Pundits, purists and fans are expecting a 32nd Italian league title. Overtaking Napoli at the helm of the table appears only as a matter of when. A fifth consecutive league triumph beckons.

It won’t be easy. The Turin side plays host to AS Roma tonight. It has to be remembered that the capital side is one of four teams to defeat the Old Lady this season. A banana peel. And the affair at the Juventus Stadium will not be a walkover for Massimiliano Allegri’s side. Though the 3-times Italian champions are currently fifth on the grid and could only draw 1-1 at home against bottom side Hellas Verona, the capital side is only seven points behind Juve.

That is within striking distance, and can deliver a brutal blow on the desires of Juve in retaining the league title. With AC Milan faltering last night, after a 2-2 draw at Empoli, Roma can now focus on gearing up for a battle for Champions League places, after drawing their last three Serie A matches. It all makes tonight’s affair an exciting encounter.

This is also why. Fiorentina and Inter Milan are both at home to Torino and Carpi, respectively. Though the duo would want to create daylight between them and Roma, they would quietly be in support of the Rome side, if only they can get to within touching distance of Juve. Having been winless in their last two matches, Inter is two points behind Juventus, with Fiorentina a further two points behind.

League leaders SSC Napoli play away to Sampdoria. After being mauled by Inter in the Coppa Italia quarters, the Partenopei will want to go back to winning, especially with the threat of the behemoth that is Juventus. Only two points separate the top two and Napoli cannot afford to stutter. At times, there’s never coming back from such.

Other Serie A fixtures will see Sassuolo playing host to Bologna, Palermo entertaining Udinese, Chievo Verona heading to Lazio for a mid-table clash, and Genoa visiting Hellas Verona.
