Innocent Simiyu appointed new Kenya 7's head coach

The Kenya Rugby Union has today announced Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu as the new Kenya Sevens Rugby team head coach.

 In a press briefing on Monday in Nairobi, KRU announced that Simiyu was the best qualified of the coaches who applied for the position previously held by Benjamin Ayimba.

Simiyu’s immediate task will be to start preparations for the forthcoming IRB World 7's Circuit that starts in Dubai this coming December

The Union did not name who will deputize Simiyu but announced that the coach has the free hand to appoint his deputies.

Erick Ogweno has however been named as the team manager..

The 33 year old Simiyu returned to competitive rugby with his club side Impala Saracens after a career threatening injury and went on to feature in three of the Kenya Simbas test matches in 2016. 

He played a total of 121 matches on the sevens World Series, scoring 58 tries and 15 conversions during a Kenya Sevens playing career from 2002 to 2010.

Ian Gibbons will be the new Strength and Conditioning Coach while Lameck Bogonko retains his slot as Team Physio.
