How Kenya's Chipu beats hosts Brazil in World Junior Trophy

Fly-half Dominic Coulson struck a sweet penalty in between the sticks at the death as Kenya’s Under-20 team nicked in a 26-24 victory over hosts Brazil in their second match at the World Junior Trophy ongoing at the Estadio Martins Pereira in São Jose Dos Campos.

Brazil were heading for a 24-23 win, but Coulson ensured the team picked their maiden victory after suffering a heavy loss against Uruguay in their opening game.

Brazil had gone into a 10-0 lead as the game kicked off through tries from Dos Santos Teixeira and Ferrer Spago.

But, the Kenyans raced back with Brian Masinza going over the chalk before Coulson added in the conversion and took Kenya level from a penalty. The fly half had another effort from a penalty but missed. However, he got another chance and this time he made no mistake taking the team 13-10 up at half time.

In the second 40 of the tie, Geoffrey Okwach sent Kenya 18-10 up before Coulson showed up once again with the conversion and a three-pointer to send Kenya cruising.

Brazil began their comeback with Pereira Proenca and Ribeiro Ferreira’s converted tries taking the side into the lead. But, in overtime, Coulson ensured victory was Kenya’s with the sweetly struck penalty.
