Hellen Obiri no match for strong Dibaba in Birmingham

Kenya’s Hellen Obiri could not match the strong pace set by Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba in the 3000m final of the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships Day 1 in Birmingham on Thursday evening.

The Olympic 5,000m silver medalist finished outside the medal bracket, a distant fourth by timing 8:49.66 after an obliterating pace set by Dibaba who clocked 8:45.05 for the Gold. Netherland’s Sifa Hassan (8:45.68) and crowd favorite Laura Muir of Great Britain (8:45.78 SB) took Silver and Bronze respectively.

Obiri will have a chance to redeem herself during the Commonwealth games set for Gold Coast, Australia in April after she got a wild card entry.
