George Manangoi ran a tactical race to bag Kenya her first gold in the 1500m boys final of the ongoing IAAF Under 18 Championship at Ksarani Stadium on Friday evening.
It was a big setback for Kenya as Dominic Kipkemboi who was the fastest qualifier didn’t make the final due to an injury sustained in the last stages of the qualifier.
Nevertheless, George Meitamei Manangoi took the mantle and managed to ward off the threat from Ethiopians.
In the first 400, he choose to run with the pack as the Ethiopians used their numerical advantage to control the pace.
Managoi made his move in the last 100m fast outpacing the Ethiopians who tried their best to catch up to no avail.
