FKF electoral board gets to work, to conduct polls by March 30

The earlier elections were nullified by the SDT after petitioners led by former FKF president Sam Nyamweya and ex Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga challenged the legality of the board as well as the electoral code.

The Football Kenya Federation electoral board, newly constituted after an order from the Sports Disputes Tribunal was inaugurated on Monday, with the sole mandate of conducting fresh polls by March 30.

The earlier elections were nullified by the SDT after petitioners led by former FKF president Sam Nyamweya and ex Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga challenged the legality of the board as well as the electoral code.

Last Tuesday, the FKF Special General Meeting ratified the new board as well as the electoral code and the five-member team was inaugurated. They selected Kentice Tikolo, a communications and public relations expert as its chair.

Tikolo has previously served as a board member for Wazito FC. In her team will be veteran broadcaster Ali Hassan Kauleni, former FIFA referee Alfred Ndinya Samwel Karanja and lawyer Patrick Onyango who will be the board’s secretary.

The board will be mandated with overseeing the National and County Elections, and may also appoint an individual or institution to oversee sub-county elections.

“We are taking this electoral process very seriously and will ensure that it is credible and transparent,” Tikolo said after the board was inaugurated.

They are expected to come up with a roadmap for the polls by Friday, detailing when and where the elections will be held.
