Egyptian side Al Ahly was on Saturday officially inscribed in history books as the club with the highest titles in Africa  following their 2016 continental glory.

 Ahly defeated host Carthage of Tunisia to successfully retain the title they won last year in Cairo. They defeated Carthage 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-13) in the competition final held at Sidi Bousaid in Tunis, Tunisia on Saturday.

With their achievement in Tunis, Ahly raised their total number of medals to 19 : 8 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals.

Kenya  champions Pipeline  overcame tournament surprise package Rwanda Revenue Authority 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-22 , 25-17) in the bronze medal match. The Kenyans claimed their 16th medal with 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze.

Kenya Pipeline previously held the record with the highest number of titles in Africa having won 7 times.
