Dagoretti players celebrate after their win over Hakati Sportiff during the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Nairobi Finals
Dagoretti Mixed are the new Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Nairobi Champions. Dagoretti claimed the king's crown in the city after a 3-4 spot kicks win over Hakati Sportiff in the regional finals played at the Jamhuri High School Grounds on Sunday
Nothing could separate the two teams in regulation time and they had to go to penalties to find a winner. Dagoretti keeper Joseph Karari and defender Ghai Mwongeli were the heroes of the side, the keeper for saving one penalty while Mwongeli scored the winning one.
Hakati stepped up first with Jackson Jumba striking it clean into the net before Victor Kagai responded for Dagoretti. Hakati were handed a massive advantage by their keeper Elvis Ochieng who brilliantly saved from John Baraza, just after Julius Juma had scored their second to give them a 2-1 edge going to the third.
However, they could not make the most of the slight step ahead with Peter Wambua striking his penalty wide while Dagoretti bounced back to tie the shootout at 2-2 when Peter Achoka scored with a sublime kick.
Both teams scored their fourth, Lewis Bandi for Hakati and Alex Munga for Dagoretti.
Hakati would then throw themselves off balance when Glen Magolo saw the final penalty saved, leaving all for Dagoretti to do; just score and clinch the crown.
Mwongela stepped up and scored the fifth for Dagoretti to hand them the title.
Earlier, Beijing Raiders had annihilated defending champions Acakoro with a 6-0 thrashing to win their ticket to the national finals in the girls finals.
