Conseslus Kipruto continues Kenyan tradition with steeplechase gold
Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto run a race of his life to win gold for Kenya in the Men's 3,000m Steeplechase final in the ongoing IAAF World Championship. The win makes it six consecutive golds for Kenya in the steeplechase race.
Kipruto had to overcome stiff challenge from USA's Evan Jager who was the pre-race favorite based on recent form.In a final twist of turn, Moroccan Soufiane won silver with Jager having to settle for bronze.
Jager led with two laps to go and his acceleration was too much for Kemboi to keep touch. With one lap to go it was still Jager on the lead with a gap of one meter chased by Kipruto and Soufiane.
On the 200m bend, Kipruto slowly worked his way to the front then added pace to overtake Jager, Soufiane tried to sprint but Kipruto had enough gas that saw him cross the line first to bag the gold for Kenya.
The gold is the third for Kenya in the competitions.Other golds came from Faith Kipyegon in the 1500m and Geoffrey Kirui in the men's marathon.
