Cheruiyot, Kipsang reach 1500m final in Birmingham

Cheruiyot, silver medalist over the distance at last year’s Tokyo Olympics finished second in heat one in a time of 3 minutes 37.82 seconds. Oliver Hoare of Australia was first in a time of 3:37.57.

Timothy Cheruiyot and Abel Kipsang are through to the men’s 1500m final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Cheruiyot, silver medalist over the distance at last year’s Tokyo Olympics finished second in heat one in a time of 3 minutes 37.82 seconds. Oliver Hoare of Australia was first in a time of 3:37.57.

Kipsang was third in heat two, timing 3:48.63 in a race that was won by new crowned World Champion Jake Wightman from Scotland in 3:48.34.

Three Kenyan sprinters, Mike Mokamba, Hesbon Ochieng and Dan Kiviasi all reached the 200m semifinals from their respective heats.

Mokamba was second overall in his heat in a time of 20.82 seconds as Ochieng clocked 21.30 with Kiviasi 20.76.

Also reaching the women’s semis was Millicent Ndoro who clocked 24.03 in her heat.
