Chathe opts out of Africa Rally title defence

Chathe opts out of Africa Rally title defence

Kenya’s Jaspreet Singh Chathe is not keen on defending his Africa Rally Championship due to financial constraints.

Chathe said he will instead be defending his Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) but will participate in the ARC rounds staged in East Africa.

“On the continental front, we will be targeting a few events on this side of Africa which is Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda but not Zambia, South Africa and of course Ivory Coast,” he said.

Chathe said depending on how he performs in East Africa and have good chances for the continental title he might consider going to Madagascar.

But again, it will all depend on how well we perform in East Africa and if we have good chances, then we might consider going to Madagascar,” said Jassi.

Jaspreet Chatthe secured his first Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) sponsored Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) crown despite an eighth place finish in September, 2015 in the Nakuru Rally.

The title win came a week after Chathe, had sealed the 2015 African Rally title at the Pearl of Africa Rally in Uganda to become the first Kenyan to scoop the African rally title in 31years.

Chathe, commonly known as Jassi, became the first Kenyan to win both the titles, Africa Rally Championship (ARC) and KNRC title in the same year.

Incidentally, the Kenyan had never in the V-Pearl of Africa Rally in his three previous (2012-14) but when he won it Chathe was able to wrap up the continental title.
