CAF Cancels CHAN venues inspection
Kenya's hope of hosting the 2018 CHAN Championships continues to face major challenges with CAF announcing cancellation of an inspection visit that had been scheduled for Thursday, September 7, 2017 .
According to a statement released by Football Kenya Federation on Sunday , "The move has been necessitated by the current political situation in the country, following a recent Supreme Court ruling that annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta’s election victory in the just concluded Presidential elections.
“We have just been informed that in light of the recent happenings CAF will be sending its 2nd Vice president Mr. Constant Omari Selemani to assess the political and security situation of the country, before they can proceed with the inspection visit,” said FKF president Nick Mwendwa.
Mr. Omari arrived in Nairobi on Sunday.
There have been different indications from independent quarters suggesting that Kenya could be stripped off the hosting rights due to the unready state of match venues and hosting standards just months before the CHAN kick off.
